Surrender Before Release

INTRODUCTION

Not every talent we are given is revealed immediately.

Some develop gradually. Others remain hidden for a time, waiting to be birthed in the right season.

And sometimes, through fear, distraction, pride, discouragement, or uncertainty, gifts are left buried altogether.

Yet the Lord, who gives every good gift, also understands the timing of its release.

Before anything is revealed outwardly, there is often a deeper inward work: a shaping of character, a quiet surrender, a refining of motives, and a learning to walk in wisdom.

For gifts are not only meant to impress; they are entrusted to serve.

Poem: Flag of Surrender

Lord, I am aggrieved at what has happened

But willing to draw a line

Between the past, present and future

All the hurts, joys, tears and laughter

Things I considered successful, Those I deemed failures

May there be a division between then and now, Now and the future

I am impoverished without Your providential guidance

The past clutters my mind and hearing How can I hear You clearly?

Despair stands between us like a gulf

I hold up the white flag of surrender I cannot live this life like this!

I had thought to present to You my past righteousness But the more I looked, I beheld a filthy rag

I am as an empty vessel, without substance

I yearn for the fullness of Your Spirit To fill the needy void

Remove the obstacles, the boulders of the past

Which haunt me

The plans and dreams which I made bigger than me

Remove the enslavement of self-trust and independence

Set me free to be that servant of God You seek.

Scripture

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”

1 Peter 5:6

“Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

Psalm 37:5

Reflection

The Weight of the Past

Have you ever found yourself feeling burdened and cluttered within?

Not only by failures and regrets, but also by successes, achievements, and even what we may quietly consider our “past righteousness.”

Both the good and the bad can become heavy when held too tightly.

Human ego has a subtle way of placing itself between the soul and true surrender. We begin to lean on what we have done, what we have built, what we once were, or even what we believe we deserve.

Yet God often calls us beyond both pride and shame.

Talents used too soon, outside His timing, or unsurrendered to Him, can derail purpose and wound others.

But gifts buried through fear, discouragement, comparison, or hesitation can also leave something precious unused.

The gifts of God were never intended merely for self-glory, but to serve both God and others: vertically and horizontally, in love, wisdom, and humility.

Perhaps this is why surrender matters so deeply.

The white flag raised before God is not defeat, but victory.

Victory over self-reliance. Victory over pride. Victory over striving.

True peace does not come from conquering life in our own strength, but from yielding ourselves fully to the One who knows how to lead us.

An empty vessel in His hands is never truly empty.

It is simply ready to be filled.

Selah/Pause/Consider

Have I been holding too tightly to past successes, past failures, or even old versions of myself?

Are there gifts within me that God is still shaping quietly, out of sight?

Have fear, pride, discouragement, or comparison caused me to bury something God intended for good?

Am I striving in my own strength, or truly surrendered to God’s leading and timing?

What might it mean for me to raise the white flag before Him: not in defeat, but in trust?

Am I willing to become an empty vessel, available for His purpose rather than my own ambition?

Sit quietly before Him.

The One who gives gifts also knows the right season for their release.
