Joy Comes In The Morning

INTRODUCTION

Joy doesn’t always arrive loudly.

A reflection on rediscovering praise after difficult seasons.

Scripture

"Weeping may stay for the night,

but joy comes in the morning."

Psalm 30:5

Reflection

Joy is often imagined as something bright and immediate

a sudden lifting, a clear and visible change.

But more often than not,

joy returns quietly.

After the long night,

after the questions,

after the waiting…

it does not always announce itself.

It can begin as a soft awareness

a lightness where heaviness once lived,

a breath that feels a little easier,

a heart that dares, once again, to respond.

This is the kind of joy that does not deny what has been.

It carries the memory of the climb,

yet chooses to lift its eyes.

And slowly… something begins to rise.

SELAH

There is a difference between joy and happiness.

Happiness often rises and falls with circumstances.
It responds to what is happening around us,
and so, it can be fleeting.

But is joy different?

Joy is not dependent on the season.
It is anchored deeper than the moment.
It remains, even when things change.
It does not deny pain,
nor does it ignore difficulty.

Instead, it rests quietly beneath it all
steady, present, and sure.
Joy endures
because its source does not change.

What/Who is your source?

Poem

New Melody To Sing

Oh Lord, You have heard my cry and answered me

You have not passed me by.

I had considered my life Feeling useless and unworthy

The sorrows in me, like a knife.

All I touched seemed to fizzle away

Night, the result of my ebbing day.

I carried on my back, all my sorrow And pondered deeply Afraid of tomorrow.

But You came to my rescue

Delivered me from despair

Giving me abundant life and hope anew.

I will ever praise You My God and my King

For You have given me A new melody to sing.

Reflection

There comes a moment when joy is no longer hidden within:

it begins to rise.

Perhaps not noisily,

not as performance,

but as recognition.

You begin to see what God has done.

You begin to notice His hand.

You begin to understand…

you were not alone in the process.

And something shifts.

What was once quiet becomes expressed.

What was once internal becomes offered.

And praise begins.

To say “All the praise to You”

is not simply a declaration,

it is a recognition.

That He carried.

That He sustained.

That He helped.

And now, with clearer eyes and a steadier heart,

we respond.

Not perfectly.

Not loudly.

But truthfully.

And He receives it.

Selah – Pause and Consider

Where have you begun to notice God’s hand in your life?

Has joy been returning quietly, rather than loudly?

What would it look like to offer simple praise today?

Looking Ahead

As joy begins to rise and praise finds its voice…

Next week, we turn joy into action—

discovering how what God has done within us

begins to shape what we do,

how we live,

and how we love others.
